11,000 kWh of Clean Power in the North of Scotland
Clare’s home — Conon Bridge, HighlandsA generous 30-panel Aiko array and a four-battery FoxESS bank deliver real savings on this Highland bungalow, proving that solar works well above the Highland line.
CLIENT
A rural bungalow in Conon Bridge, near Dingwall in the Scottish Highlands, with a large single-storey roof and a steady, heating-led demand.
The Project
The wide bungalow roof allowed a high panel count without shading constraints. With lower northern irradiance, the design leaned on premium high-efficiency panels and a large battery to capture every available kilowatt-hour.
The technical scope included:
- 30 × Aiko 460W solar panels (13.8 kWp total capacity)
- FoxESS KH10 hybrid inverter
- 4 × FoxESS EP5 batteries (20.7 kWh usable storage)
- Loft-to-hall cable run, fully MCS-certified
The Solution
Solar4Good designed the system specifically for the Highland setting, from survey through to commissioning.
Key aspects included:
- Optimised System Layout – A high panel count across the wide bungalow roof, free of shading.
- High-Efficiency Equipment – Premium Aiko panels chosen to maximise output in lower northern irradiance.
- Large Storage Bank – Four FoxESS batteries to carry generation through long winter evenings.
- Safety & Compliance – Installed fully in line with UK building and electrical standards.
The Result
Over 11,000 kWh generated each year — a standout result for a Highland property — with the battery bank keeping the lights on through long winter evenings.
Environmental impact:
- Average CO₂ savings: 2,320 kg/year
- Equivalent to planting 2,400 trees over the system’s lifetime
- Lifetime CO₂ offset: ~58,000 kg
Financial savings:
- Lifetime savings: ~£49,000
- Average savings: ~£1,980 per year
- ROI / Payback period: 8–9 years
Client benefits:
- Strong output despite the northern latitude
- Significant contribution towards Net Zero
- Resilience through long Highland winters
- Stabilised energy costs against tariff volatility

- Generation: system size (kWp) × regional specific yield (800 kWh/kWp Highlands, 920–950 kWh/kWp England).
- Savings: self-consumed units at the 24.67p/kWh Ofgem residential rate; exported units at 7p/kWh (conservative SEG).
- Lifetime savings: annual saving × 25 years (no tariff escalation applied).
- ROI: system cost ÷ annual saving. Carbon: ~0.21 kg CO₂/kWh grid displacement; trees are illustrative only.
